The No. 9 ranked (Trackwire.com) Crimson Tide men’s track and field team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa this weekend for the prestigious Drake Relays and before stepping foot on the track, All-American David Kimani had already made some noise.
Kimani was featured on the Drake Relays admission ticket that was given to each fan that paid to see the event which was quite an honor as the Relays had sold out for 37 straight seasons heading into the 2002 meet.
Kimani’s lone event was the mile where he ran a time of 4:06.34 for a sixth place finish.
The Tide’s top finish of the day belonged to All-American and defending 110m hurdles national champion Ron Bramlett. Bramlett continued his string of first place finishes in the event finishing first in the both the preliminaries and finals with times of 13.77 and 14.02.
Also finishing strong was Latonel Williams in the 100m dash. Williams posted the fastest time in the preliminary rounds with a time of 10.49. However, he finished .02 seconds behind Tom Green of South Dakota in the finals for a second place finish.
Elsewhere for the Tide, Peter Kiprono placed fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:02.03 while Todd Fayant finished ninth in the event posting a 9:07.91.
