
Steeplechase Runners Carrying Tide at SEC Outdoor Championships

With three completed days in the books at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Starkville, Mississippi, the Crimson Tide men’s track team sits in sixth place with 23 total points due in part to 13 points won in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
Peter Kiprono posted a second place finish in the event with a time of 8:55.72 claiming eight points for Alabama. Todd Fayant finished fifth with a time of 9:12.28 for four points and Troy Henderson claimed a point for the team with a 10th place finish and time of 9:21.75.
Elsewhere for Alabama, Ron Bramlett was his regular stellar self, claiming the top time in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.42. Latonel Williams posted the fourth fastest time in the preliminaries of the 100m dash with a time of 10.32 and David Kimani also finished fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 3:52.91 in the 1,500m.
Bramlett, Williams and Kimani will compete in the finals of their respective events on Sunday, which will be the fourth and final day of competition.
