TUSCALOOSA -- University of Alabama head women’s basketball coach Rick Moody and his staff signed two players to national letters-of-intent to attend Alabama during the NCAA’s early signing period in November.
The Crimson Tide added freshman Kate Mastin and junior college transfer Angela Prosperi for the 2002-03 season. The pair become the first signees of Bama’s 2002 recruiting class.
“I believe that both of these players will make a significant contribution to the Alabama Basketball program,” said Moody. “We are thrilled to have these two outstanding players joining our team for next season.”
Mastin, a 5-9 guard/forward from Boaz, Ala., was the 5A State Player of the Year last season in helping guide her high school squad to the state championship. She is a two-time All-State first-team selection averaging almost 19 ppg as a prep junior.
“Kate is not only a very good player but also a solid person,” said Moody. “She is definitely the type of student-athlete that we are seeking for our program. She comes from a very strong high school program with a winning tradition.”
Prosperi, a 6-2 post player from Lebanon, Ohio, comes to the Tide following a solid two-season at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill. She was an all-state and Street & Smith All-American (honorable mention) as a prep player at Lebanon HS.
“Angela possesses good size and has nice playing skills,” added Moody. “She plays in a strong junior college program that runs a similar style to the way we are playing.”
