Alabama Baseball Places Five Players on All-SEC Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team placed five players on the 2002 All-SEC squads, including three first-team selections and second-team honorees. The Crimson Tide's five All-SEC selections ranked second only to Florida's six honorees. Alabama also placed three players on the First-Team All-SEC squad second only to league champion South Carolina's four first-team selections.
Senior catcher Jeremy Brown, senior second baseman Brent Boyd and senior center fielder Scott McClanahan were named First-Team All-SEC in a vote by the league's 12 head coaches.
Sophomore Peter Stonard and senior pitcher Lance Cormier were named Second Team All-SEC this week.
"I am very proud of these guys and what they have accomplished this year," Alabama head coach Jim Wells said. "They are all so very deserving. I can't think of a group of players that have meant more to a team than this group of players. It has been a magical year in a lot of ways and these guys made it all possible."
Boyd (51 G, .267, 7 HR, 44 RBI, 8 GW RBI) was honored for the third time in his career, but the first time as a First-Team All-SEC pick. In 2000 and 2001, Boyd was a Second-Team All-SEC honoree.
Brown (56 G, .330, 10 HR, 55 RBI, 1 Error) was a First-Team All-SEC selection for the second consecutive year.
McClanahan (56 G, .330, 12 HR, 55 RBI, 8 outfield assists) was also honored for the second year in a row. As a junior, Mac was a Second-Team All-SEC selection. He was voted First-Team All-SEC this season for the first time in his career.
Cormier (15 GS, 9-3, 3.14 ERA, 5 CG) was honored for the third time in his career as an All-SEC performer. The Lafayette, La., has been a Second-Team All-SEC selection in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
Stonard (50 G, .411, 4 HR, 34 RBI, 18 2B) was an All-SEC selection for the first time in his career.
