The University of Alabama volleyball team lost three straight games in a tough battle to Wake Forest on Friday in the Alabama Turkey Classic hosted by the Crimson Tide.
Alabama fell to 21-9 on the season and Wake Forest moved to 19-11. Wake Forest won both of the first two games of the match by the score of 30-28. The Demon Deacons then clinched the match with a 30-25 win in game three.
“I thought that Wake Forest played a very mature and experienced match,” UA head coach Judy Green said. “Alabama learned a very valuable lesson. Late in the game you have got to make the plays. We did not execute well enough tonight to win and that was the difference in the game.”
Alabama led in game one 25-22 before Wake Forest rallied five straight points to go up 27-25. The Demon Deacons held onto the lead and won game one 30-28. In game two, Wake Forest had a ten point lead at 20-10 before the Crimson Tide was able to go on a 14-4 run to tie the match up at twenty-four. Alabama grabbed a lead at 28-27, and then Wake Forest scored three straight points to win the match 30-28.
Alabama continued to battle in game three. Alabama trailed 27-25 late in the game, but the Demon Deacons once again scored three straight points to clinch the game and the match.
The Crimson Tide was led by Jennifer Bibber and Erin Price with twelve kills apiece. Kenna Milner led Alabama in digs with fifteen. The Demon Deacons were paced by Jessica Hauff with twelve kills. Trina Maso de Moya led Wake Forest with eighteen digs.
