TUSCALOOSA-- University of Alabama women’s basketball coach Rick Moody announced the signing of Lauren Hill to a national letter-of-intent to attend Alabama and play for the Crimson Tide next season.
Hill, who hails from New Orleans, La., was a prep standout for De La Salle High School. A 6-foot wing player, Hill was named to the Louisiana All-State team and earned District MVP honors twice. She averaged 26.8 points and 11.0 rebounds a game as a prep senior and is also ranked fifth in her graduating class with a 4.3 GPA.
“We are blessed to have Lauren joining our program,” said Moody. “She is a very athletic, strong and skilled player. I have no doubt that she possesses the ability to make an immediate impact for us. In addition to her solid work on the court, Lauren is also a tremendously strong worker in the classroom. She is the type of well-rounded student-athlete that we are looking for at the University of Alabama.”
Selected the New Orleans Catholic League MVP this season, Hill becomes the second such honoree to continue her playing career with the Tide joining former UA All-SEC performer Shondra Johnson in that select group.
Hill is the Crimson Tide’s first addition during the NCAA’s month-long spring signing period. She joins first semester signees Kate Mastin and Angela Prosperi as members of Alabama’s 2002 recruiting class.
