Saudia Roundtree
Assistant Coach
*1st Year at Alabama (May 2, 2005)
Roundtree joins the Crimson Tide staff following a three-year stint as the head coach at North Carolina A&T University. Prior to guiding the Lady Aggies, she spent one season as an assistant coach at Morris Brown College. Roundtree concluded her only season at MBC serving as the team’s interim head coach. She also worked as the basketball director of the Suwannee Sports Academy and played three seasons of professional basketball in the American Basketball League (ABL) for the Atlanta Glory (two years) and the Nashville Noise (one year).
No stranger to the Southeastern Conference having spent two record-setting seasons as a starting guard at the University of Georgia, Roundtree was one of the most highly decorated Lady Bulldog players during her career earning consensus National Player of the Year accolades in leading the Lady ‘Dawgs to the 1996 SEC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Championship game. That season, Roundtree also garnered SEC Female Athlete and SEC Player of the Year honors along with being named a first-team Kodak All-American. She finished her UGA career with over 1,000 points and holds the Lady Bulldog record for single season assists. She began her collegiate career at Kilgore (Texas) College, where she captured National Junior College Player of the Year honors in 1994 after averaging 26.2 points per game.
A native of Anderson, S.C., Roundtree earned a sociology degree from Georgia.
“I have known Saudia for a long time and I am thrilled to have her joining me at Alabama,” Smith added. “Her experience as a head coach and her knowledge of the SEC are definitely huge assets for this staff. Saudia has great people skills. She is a tremendous recruiter and does a great job with player development. I believe she will really be a positive influence for this team.”
“This is a dream job for me,” said Roundtree. “Having played in this league, I know that it is the best in the country and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to coach in the SEC. I am looking forward to working for Stephany Smith, who I think is a very strong coach. I have played basketball successfully at every level and I know what it takes to get it done. I am honored to be here and excited about what the future brings.”
