Alabama Swimming and Diving Shines at Georgia Invitational

The Alabama men and women's swimming and diving teams picked up a trio of wins at the Georgia Invitational held in Athens, Ga. this past weekend.
Freshman Vlad Polyakov won the 200 breaststroke . He also finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a 55.53. Senior Charles Reeves posted a 57.13 in the 100 to finish seventh.
Sophomore Spiros Bitsakis was second in the 50 freestyle, racing to a 20.36 finish. Bitsakis was also third in the 200 freestyle, at 1:39.29.
Sophomore All-American Stewart Smith won the 10-meter platform with 449.60. He also finished second off both the one and three-meter board with 648.25 and 545.15 points respectively.
Freshman JT Jones finished third in the 500 freestyle with a 4:30.13 followed by junior James Willcox in fourth with a 4:32.01. In the mile, Jones finished second at 15:26.72.
Junior Brendan Ashby's 51.96 in the 100 backstroke gave him fourth place. In the 400 IM, junior Ben Worby took fifth at 4:00.31 while Jones was eighth with a 4:05.98. In the 200 butterfly, senior Zach Winchester took seventh with a 1:52.38.
Freshman Crystal Rassmussen won the three-meter board decisively with a 514.50 points while senior Kat Bortenlanger finished third with 497.30 points. Off the one-meter board, Bortenlanger finished second with 565.75 points while Rassmussen was sixth after scoring 521.75 points. Bortenlanger took second off the 10-meter platform with 365.50 points while Rassmussen took fourth with 349.65 points.
Junior Catalina Casaru was third in the 400 IM with a 4:22.75. In the 200 backstroke, Casaru was fourth after posting a 2:01.89 while freshman Kathryn Hallquist was eighth at 2:08.21.
Freshman Anna Grant swam to a 1:51.16 finish in the 200 freestyle, good for sixth place. Senior Holly McCrelless was sixth in the 200 breaststroke posting a 2:36.62.
Freshman Candace Weiman finished fourth in the 200 IM with a 2:03.72. She also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall at 55.16 while classmate Victoria Genova took seventh with a 56.38.
Genova finished third in the 200 butterfly after swimming to a 2:02.25 finish.
Alabama returns to action January 10th, again in Athens, Ga. taking on Georgia in a dual meet.
