TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama women’s golf coach Betty Palmer announced the signings of Amy Middleton and Josie Lowder to national letters-of-intent to play golf for the Crimson Tide next season.
Middleton is a native of Citronelle, Ala., and Lowder hails from Petersburg, Ill. Both players will be freshmen next year at Alabama.
“I am excited about the addition of both of these young ladies,” said Palmer. “They are both very talented players and will have an immediate impact on our depth and experience level.”
An All-State performer at Citronelle High School, Middleton was the State High School champion this season after carding the lowest two-day total in Alabama women’s prep championship history. An active player in the state amateur ranks, she is a four-time WAGA Medallist and Champion. Middleton became the youngest state junior champion in 1998 when she won the crown at age 13. In addition, Middleton has earned four top five national finishes in AJGA events.
“We are thrilled to have Amy joining our team,” said Palmer. “Any time we can get an in-state player with her credentials it is very exciting. She has a very strong work ethic. Amy is going to be a great addition to our program.”

“Josie is a truly gifted athlete,” said Palmer. “She is one of the strongest junior players in the Midwest. We are very fortunate to have a player of her caliber joining us. She has been very successful and possesses a lot of good tournament experience.”
This duo becomes the first signees for the Alabama women’s golf team during the NCAA’s early November signing period. The current edition of the Crimson Tide golf team has concluded their fall schedule and will return to action on Feb. 9-10 at the Tulane Intercollegiate.
