Ladislav Lelkes joined the Crimson Tide as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in January of 2019 after previously working with head coach Lindsey Devine at East Tennessee State.
During the 2018 season, Lelkes helped to lead the Buccaneers to a regular season Southern Conference title and its highest win total (28) since 1983. ETSU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the first team in conference history to do so, marking back-to-back postseason appearances for the Bucs. In a season full of breakthroughs for ETSU, they beat nationally-ranked Tennessee, Washington State and NCAA Tournament participant Duke. ETSU also earned its highest RPI in the school’s history at 33.
2017 was Lelkes’ first season as an assistant coach at ETSU. After finishing second during the regular season, the Bucs won the Southern Conference Tournament in dominating fashion without dropping a set to earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Lelkes served at ETSU as the recruiting coordinator and his main focus was to train team blocking. During the both seasons, the team led the Southern Conference in blocks-per-set and their middle blockers finished in the top-3 individually as well.
Prior to his time at ETSU, Lelkes was an assistant coach at East Carolina in 2016 and Barton College in 2014 and 2015. He played two seasons on Barton’s men’s team serving as a team captain in 2012 and 2013.
Lelkes was also a part of the VKP Bratislava volleyball club at various levels from 2001-2011. Lelkes helped Bratislava to two National Championships and Slovakian Cup Title.
