Kyle Vasey joined The University of Alabama Department in June of 2017 as the Deputy Director of Athletics, Chief Financial Officer. In doing so, Vasey reunited with athletics director Greg Byrne, who he worked with at the University of Arizona in a similar role.
As a member of the executive staff, Vasey is responsible for a variety of tasks, including oversight of the annual operating budget and the Crimson Tide Foundation, managing the financial components of capital projects, analyzes the department's financial operations to identify potential efficiencies and develop future strategic plans that align with business goals, among other duties.
Vasey manages all data analytic initiatives for the athletics department to provide high-level reporting that drives strategic departmental decisions for senior leadership and the Director of Athletics. He also has oversight of information technology, flight operations, and vendor contracts as well as serving as the sport administrator for men's and women's golf and rowing.
Vasey was initially hired at Alabama as the Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Planning. In this role, he utilized reporting and analytics to enable department personnel to make more informed and strategic decisions. In January 2020, he was promoted to Associate Athletics Director before being elevated to his current role in July 2024.
Prior to his appointment at the Capstone, Vasey was a senior financial analyst for the University of Arizona athletics department. During his tenure in Tucson and under Byrne’s guidance, Vasey produced detailed reporting and forecasting models that assisted with ticket pricing recommendations and return on investment analysis of various revenue producing activities. In addition, he analyzed the success of various email, marketing, and promotional campaigns to identify the most optimal outreach practices.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Vasey attended the University of Arizona and graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 2014 and a Master of Business Administration (Accounting) in 2015. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA), currently licensed in the state of Alabama and a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs (ASCPA).
As a student, Vasey worked as a manager for the Arizona men's basketball team. During his time at Arizona, the Wildcats went 113-33, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen three times, the Elite Eight twice, and won two Pac-12 Championships. He is married to his wife, Samantha, and the couple has two children, a daughter, Sophia, and a son, Cooper.
