Cathleen Cawley joined the Alabama track and field program as its Director of Operations in the summer of 2021, coordinating all administrative and operational aspects of the Crimson Tide's program, including travel, recruiting and event management.
"Cathleen hit the ground running and has made an immediate and profound impact for us," Waters said. "Her mix of coaching and operational experience makes her perfectly suited to do this job at the highest level, bringing a tremendous range of experience, knowledge and skills to our program. She comes in with nearly two decades of experience working in track and field at the collegiate level and has gone around the world with USA Track and Field. She has one of the sharpest minds in the sport and will touch all areas of our program to make a huge difference for our student-athletes, coaches and support staff."
Cawley comes to Tuscaloosa following seven years at Idaho, serving as director of operations as well as an assistant coach. Prior to working with the Vandals, she served as both director of operations and assistant coach at Colorado State from 2009-14. Cawley started her post-collegiate career as a volunteer coach at Colorado School of Mines in 2004 before becoming and assistant coach with Northern Colorado in 2007.
Cawley has earned numerous assignments with USA Track and Field, including being selected as Head Women's Manager for Team USA at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
She also traveled with Team USA to Finland, serving on the 2018 USA World Junior Team staff as an Event Manager and to San Jose, Costa Rica, as the women's head team manager for the 2015 NACAC Senior Championships, as well as a team manager for the Junior Pan Am Championships in Lima, Peru.
Level I USA Track & Field certified and Level II certified in jumps, sprints, throws, and combined events, Cawley is also certified as a USA Track & Field Level 1 Instructor and has served as a USA Track & Field Official. She has also completed the USTFCCCA certification in jumps, sprints and strength and conditioning.
In 2016, Cawley was awarded the Rita Sumerlot Development Coordinator of the Year and has served as president and vice president for the United States Women's Track Coaches Association.
As a student-athlete, she was a four-year member of the University of Richmond track and field team, serving as team captain, winning a pair of conference titles in the heptathlon and helping lead the Spiders to the 2003 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in 2003 with a double major in computer science and physics. She would go on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Colorado State in 2015.
