Zach Johnson, entering his second season with the Crimson Tide, joined the Alabama rowing staff in August 2023.
Johnson's Time at Alabama
2024 Season
- Was a member of the Crimson Tide's coaching staff when the Southeastern Conference announced, Aug. 23, 2024, that rowing would become the conference's 22nd-sponsored sport and 13th women's sport
- Helped guide 33 rowers to the Academic All-Big 12 list and another 11 to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athlete list
- Led the Tide to its second consecutive third-place team finish at the Big 12 Championships, as a trio of UA 1V8+ crew members earned All-Big 12 recognition
- Saw Alabama's 3V8+ crew earn Big 12 Boat of the Week honors
Johnson's Time at Alabama (Equipment Manager)
- Served as the equipment manager for the Crimson Tide during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, helping make sure all UA boats were ready for race competition
Johnson's Time Prior to Alabama
- Between 2019 and 2021, Johnson served as Yorktown's varsity boys head coach, as well as the assistant coach for both TBC Rowing and McLean High School
- Led Yorktown to a third-place finish at the 2019 VASRA Championships
- Helped guide Thompson Boat Center's U17 program to the US Rowing national championships in both the 1V8+ and 1V4+ races
Johnson's Rowing Experience
- Earned silver at the 2009 US Rowing Club Nationals as part of a Junior 2- crew
- Competed in a Youth 8+ crew that raced at the renowned Head of the Charles regatta in 2008
- Began his career at McLean High School, near Washington D.C., in 2007
- Rowed for TBC as well as Old Dominion Boat Club throughout his high school career
