During the summer of 2021, for the second time in her life, Gina Quinlan packed up her life and headed east to join The University of Alabama gymnastics program.
Quinlan originally made the journey 25 years ago when she left her native Mississippi to join the Alabama gymnastics team as a freshman in the fall of 1996. Now, Quinlan, formerly Gina Logan, rejoins the Crimson Tide as an assistant coach after a 20-plus year career in club gymnastics.
I'm excited to have Gina as part of the staff," Alabama head coach Ashley Johnston said. "I've known her for many years, and she continues to prove her competitive success at the highest levels of our sport while also fostering great connections with the student-athletes. She is the perfect fit for our program’s philosophy."
Prior to returning to Alabama, Quinlan was a part of the Metroplex Gymnastics staff for 10 years, where she spent seven seasons as co-program director and the last three as head vault and uneven bars coach and Elite Program Coordinator.
“The University of Alabama is committed to academic excellence, with tremendous energy, pride, and tradition surrounding our athletics program,” Quinlan said. “The dominance of Alabama Athletics is unparalleled. There are many lessons I learned during my time at the Capstone that I have taken into every aspect of my career and life.
“Bama Gymnastics has always maintained a huge focus on family and teamwork and that shaped my idea of what a high-level team should be. I am very excited to work with this talented team and continue to help develop young women not only as athletes, but as whole people. I have spent over 20 years in the club gymnastics community and look forward to furthering those relationships and continuing to recruit more of the nation’s best athletes to advance their careers at the Alabama.”
While at Metroplex, she coached more than three dozen athletes who went on to earn NCAA Division I scholarships and that number jumps to nearly 50 over the span of her 15 years in Texas. Metroplex was named Region 3 Program of the Year, Texas Program of the Year and the Meetscoresonline Program of the Year during her tenure.
She also developed six Elite gymnasts and more than a dozen Junior Olympic National Team Members, including a pair of Junior Olympic National Champions, at Metroplex.
Prior to Metroplex, she spent five years at Texas Dreams Gymnastics (2005-10), where she coached more than 15 TOPs National Team Members.
Quinlan started her coaching career at American Gymnastics (2000-05) where she served as head coach.
During her time as a Crimson Tide gymnast, Quinlan was an NCAA regional balance beam champion and Scholastic All-American who served as co-captain of Alabama’s 2000 SEC Championship squad. She also helped lead Alabama to three NCAA Regional titles and a pair of top-three NCAA Championship finishes. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama in 2000 and a master’s degree from UAB in 2003.
Quinlan and her husband, Brooks, married in 2010.
