Lance McMahon joined the Alabama Softball coaching staff in the fall of 2022.
"We are very excited to welcome Lance to the Alabama softball family," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said. "He has done great things at Illinois, and we look forward to having him work with our pitchers. His experiences in Champaign and at LSU, Mizzou and the NPF have more than prepared him for this position,"
"First, I would like to thank Illinois Head Coach Tyra Perry for giving me the opportunity to help elevate Illini softball during our six-year run in Champaign-Urbana," McMahon said. "I'm so thankful for everything she has done for my life, not only professionally but personally as well. I look forward to her continued friendship and mentorship.
"Having degrees from two different SEC member institutions, it was always my dream to coach in the SEC and I would like to thank Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy for making that dream a reality. It was clear from our early conversations that we had similar values and are invested in building relationships in pursuit of competitive excellence both on and off the field for our student-athletes. It is my absolute privilege to join the rest of the staff here and compete in the best softball conference in the country."

- Alabama pitching staff ranked second in the SEC and top 20 nationally with 2.05 ERA (2023)
- Montana Fouts led the NCAA in strikeouts and was named Softball America's Pitcher of the Year (2023)
University of Illinois - Assistant Coach (2017-22)
- Pitching staff recorded sub 3.00 team ERAs in each of his last three seasons
- 2.50 ERA in 2022, its lowest team ERA since 2010
- Illini pitchers struck out a single season record of 428 batters in 2022
- Illinois ranked in the top three in Big 10 in ERA, saves, strikeouts, batting average against and shutouts
