- The Crimson Tide's success during the regular season, paired with the wins in Hoover, earned Alabama an NCAA Regional host bid, the first for UA since 2006. The Tide swept the weekend in town with a 3-0 record to be crowned NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Champions.
- Alabama advanced to the NCAA Winston-Salem Super Regional where the Tide fell in consecutive days to the Tournament's No. 1 seed, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
- Brad Bohannon led the Crimson Tide for part of his sixth season as a collegiate head coach before being relieved of his duties on the morning of May 4. Jason Jackson was tasked with taking over as interim head coach, leading the Crimson Tide to a 13-6 record.

The '23 Tide also averaged 5.31 walks per game, the highest mark in Alabama single-season history.
- On the mound, UA maintained a 4.26 ERA (263 ER/555.2 IP) and combined for seven shutouts. The Tide pitchers struck out 593 compared to just 236 walks and held opposing hitters to a .233 average.
- The '23 group tied the program-high mark for strikeouts in a season while the seven shutouts tied for the second-most in a single year.
- Alabama finished the regular season as the only team ranked in the top-three of hitting and pitching on the conference lists. The Tide also led the league for run differential during conference play at plus-48.
- The 2023 defense fielded at a .978 clip and was highlighted by Gold Glove winner Jim Jarvis. The senior was also one of two All-SEC Defensive Team honorees for UA. He was joined by Drew Williamson on the league's defensive roster.
- Maryland's Rob Vaughn was hired as the Tide's new head coach on Monday, June 12, and was officially introduced one day later at a press conference. Vaughn retained Jackson, promoting him to the title of associate head coach.
- Alabama's 2023 team will forever be defined by its resiliency in the face of adversity following the firing of Bohannon. The Crimson Tide banded together and provided college baseball with one of, if not the best story over the final two months of the year.
A Closer Look
- Alabama finished 43-21 overall with a 16-14 mark in SEC play.
- The Tide's 43 wins were the most in a single season since 2006 and marked the first time UA accumulated 40-plus wins since 2010. Alabama finished the regular season with 38 victories, which were the most by a Tide team during the regular season since that '06 squad.
- UA's 16 wins during conference play were the most by an Alabama team since 2009. The Crimson Tide also finished above .500 in SEC play for the first time since 2014 and the first time with a complete 30-game conference schedule since 2008.
- The Crimson Tide entered the SEC Tournament as the No. 9 seed and went 2-2 in Hoover. The Tide's impressive resume earned Tuscaloosa an NCAA Regional host bid. Alabama went 3-0 in the Regional to be crowned champions and advanced to NCAA Super Regional play for the first time since 2010.
- Alabama spent nearly every week of the season ranked or receiving votes in at least one of the major polls. The Tide peaked at No. 10 on D1Baseball.com's final edition of its poll on June 27. UA also finished the season ranked by each of the five major polls, all of which ranked Alabama in the top-18.
- The Crimson Tide offense batted .293 (634-2,162) and totaled 100 doubles, 12 triples and 112 home runs on the way to 1,094 total bases and a .506 slugging percentage. Alabama's offense combined for 340 walks and 77 hit-by-pitch for a .402 on-base percentage. UA also finished with 488 runs and 47 stolen bases.
- UA improved significantly in nearly every offensive category. The Tide's average went up by 0.14 points while the home runs nearly doubled from 62 in 2022 to 112 this season to help slugging go up by 0.76. Alabama also drew 120 additional walks from the year prior while improving the on-base number by 0.40.
- Alabama ranked in the top-five in the SEC in eight separate offensive categories, highlighted by the home run total which finished 12th nationally and fifth in the league.
- The Tide homered in 54 total games while producing multiple homers 35 times, including 18 SEC matchups. UA also homered in a program-record 24 straight games from April 18-June 3, bettering the previous high of 18. That streak came after a 16-game stretch to start the 2023 schedule which ranked as the third longest streak at the time.

- The pitchers accumulated 593 strikeouts to tie the 1999 team for the Alabama single-season record. The '23 team averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game, bettering the mark of 8.59 K/game mark by the '99 group.
- Defensively, the Crimson Tide finished with a .978 mark, highlighted by Gold Glove winner Jim Jarvis. The senior was just the third Gold Glove winner in program history and the first at his position.
- Jarvis paired with Drew Williamson on the SEC All-Defensive Team at the end of the regular season. Williamson, a first baseman, and Jarvis were the first Alabama representatives on the league's All-Defensive Team at their respective positions.
- Included in the impressive defensive effort was Andrew Pinckney's six outfield assists. Pinckney made numerous run-saving and game-changing throws from the outfield in 2023 and finished with 13 for his career to tie for the seventh-most in Alabama history.
2023 - A Wild Ride
- Alabama finished the 2023 season at 43-21 overall and 16-14 in Southeastern Conference play.
- The 43 wins were the most in a single season since 2006 when that team finished 44-21. Of those 43 wins, 38 came during the regular season, the most since a 39-17 finish by that '06 squad.
- UA accumulated 16 wins in SEC play for the first time since 2009 when that team finished 18-11. The Tide also finished above .500 in conference action, a first since 2014 and the first across a complete 30-game conference slate since 2008.
- A major point of emphasis was placed on midweeks with the Crimson Tide finishing 12-1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That record included a 10-0 start to midweek action.
- The success in conference play earned the Tide a spot in Hoover for a third consecutive season. Alabama had not reached the SEC Tournament in three straight years since 2014-16 prior to 2023.
- Alabama's 2-2 run in Hoover, paired with the regular-season finish, provided Tuscaloosa with the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2006. UA would sweep the Regional, 3-0, to advance to Super Regionals for the first time since 2010.
- Alabama began the season on a 14-game winning streak to tie for the second-longest winning streak to start a season, trailing only the 1997 roster's 15-game mark. The 14-game streak also tied for the fifth-longest winning streak at any point in a season in Alabama history.
- The Crimson Tide entered SEC play with 16 totals wins and proceeded to pick up one victory apiece at then-No. Florida, against then-No. 22 Kentucky and at then-No. 6 Arkansas. A series loss to Mississippi State set Alabama at 4-8 overall and 0-4 in conference series after four weeks.
- Following the series loss to the Bulldogs, Alabama went 5-1 over the final six series and 12-6 overall in conference play. The only series loss in the final six-week stretch came at top-ranked LSU.
- In the middle of that hot streak, Tide head coach Brad Bohannon was relieved of his duties. The announcement came on the morning of May 4, with Jason Jackson taking over as interim head coach.
- Jackson guided Alabama to a 13-6 record over the final stretch. His first win came the night of May 4, a dominant 11-2 victory over then-No. 5 Vanderbilt. The Tide took two games from the 'Dores for a series win, one of three in a row to close out the regular season. The Tide had not won three straight SEC series since 2014.
- The Tide's season came to an end on Sunday, June 11, with Rob Vaughn being named the new head coach the very next afternoon. Vaughn was formally introduced as head coach at a press conference on Tuesday, June 13.
Disco, Photos, Teddy Bears and Camo
- Alabama's 2023 campaign will be remembered for many things, but, perhaps most notably, fans will remember it for a disco helmet, Polaroids, a teddy bear and the camouflage hats that led the Tide all the way to an NCAA Super Regional.
- The disco helmet was used in the dugout to celebrate each of the Crimson Tide's home runs during the season. Adding to the celebration was a posed photo taken on a Polaroid camera along with a 'Dinger Party' celebration on the videoboard at home games.
- While the Tide was in Hoover for the SEC Tournament, a Build-A-Bear was made to accompany the team in the dugout. The bear was named 'Rager' and became a part of the team's regular celebrations.
- Alabama's hot streak to end the season came with camouflage hats. A decision was made on May 6 against Vanderbilt to wear the camo hats for the first time since 2017. The Tide won that game, 2-1, and proceeded to go 11-4 when wearing the hats down the final stretch. Alabama went 1-1 in the only two games without the hats during that time.
Ranked in the End
- Alabama finished the season in the top-25 of all major rankings for the first time in recent memory.
- The Crimson Tide's highest ranking came from D1Baseball.com at No. 10.
- Both Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Perfect Game ranked the Tide No. 12 while the NCBWA listed UA at No. 16.
- The USA Today Coaches Poll had Alabama ranked 17th while Baseball America labeled the Tide 18th on their poll.
- Alabama's No. 10 ranking from D1Baseball is the highest in the history of the site. The previous best was No. 18, where the Tide was listed on March 6 of the 2023 campaign. It also marked the first time Alabama has cracked the top-10 of any poll since at least 2013.
NCAA Super Regional
- The 16th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide traveled to Winston-Salem to take on top-ranked Wake Forest in the program's fourth NCAA Super Regional appearance in history. The Crimson Tide also participated in Super Regional action in 1999, 2006 and 2010.
- The Tide fell, 5-4, in game one with the Demon Deacons. A missed check swing for strike three extended Danny Corona's at-bat. The Wake designated hitter used his extra life to record a solo home run that would prove the difference in the game. Wake Forest then eliminated UA from the postseason with a 22-5 victory in a home run derby on Sunday.
- Following the loss in Winston-Salem, the Tide owns a 3-6 (.333) mark in NCAA Super Regionals.
NCAA Regional - Welcome to the Joe
- Tuscaloosa played host to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 when Alabama opened NCAA Regional play on Friday, June 2 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
- The Tide made its 26th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2023. Following a weekend sweep at The Joe, UA improved to 60-37 (.619) in NCAA Regional action and finished the 2023 season with a 74-53 (.583) overall record in the Tournament.
- Alabama has claimed eight Regional Championships in program history including titles in 1950, 1983, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2006, 2010 and now 2023.
- The Crimson Tide went 3-0 on the weekend to earn a Regional title just before dawn as Sunday transitioned into Monday. Alabama first walked off Nicholls, 4-3, in a pitchers' duel on Friday, before clinching a spot in the championship game with an 11-8 win over Troy in a back-and-forth contest on Saturday. The Tide secured the Regional crown with an 8-0 shutout over then-No. 24 Boston College on day three.
How We Got to Host
- Alabama earned a host spot in the NCAA Tournament thanks to a standout resume entering the postseason.
- The Crimson Tide finished the 2023 regular season, in addition to four games in the SEC Tournament, with the 14th ranked strength of schedule while sporting an RPI of 11 by all major sites.
- Entering the postseason, the Tide totaled nine wins against Top-20 RPI opponents, 17 victories against Top-50 RPI foes and finished with 18 combined victories against SEC competition, including 16 during the regular season for the first time since 2009.
- Alabama squared off with 10 of the 63 teams in the 2023 NCAA Tournament field and came away with 16 wins against those opponents during the regular season. Signature wins in that group of 16 included three victories against Auburn along with two wins apiece against Kentucky, Samford, Texas A&M, Troy and Vanderbilt.
- What is even more impressive about the Tide's resume is that much of Alabama's success came without weekend starters Ben Hess and Grayson Hitt for nearly half the season. Hitt, a preseason All-American, made eight starts before having season-ending surgery while Hess totaled seven starts prior to a forearm injury that ended his season early.
Back in Hoover
- Alabama returned to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium when the No. 9 seed Crimson Tide opened SEC Tournament play against No. 8 seed Kentucky on Tuesday, May 23. Including 2023, the Crimson Tide appeared in three consecutive Tournaments for the first time since 2014-16.
- The Crimson Tide is 55-49 (.529) all-time in the Tournament and participated for the 36th time in 2023.
- Alabama went 2-2 in Hoover for a third straight year. The Tide blanked the Wildcats, 4-0, to earn a spot in the double elimination portion of the Tournament. Day two saw UA fall, 7-6, in extras to second-ranked Florida. Facing elimination, Alabama downed then-No. 19 Auburn, 7-4, in a rivalry pairing at the Met. The Tide's time in Hoover came to a close on Friday when then-No. 8 Vanderbilt proved too much.
Top Three in Hitting and Pitching Overall
- Alabama finished the 2023 regular season as the only team ranked in the top-three for both hitting and pitching in the Southeastern Conference.
- UA was third in hitting, behind only top-five LSU and Florida, while ranking second in pitching behind just Tennessee.
League Leaders for Run Differential in Conference Play
- Alabama finished the 2023 SEC slate as the league leaders in run differential at plus-48. The Tide totaled 191 runs while allowing a league-low 143. The Crimson Tide finished one run ahead of Arkansas in run differential.
- UA owned the sixth-strongest intra-conference schedule with the Tide's opponents combining for a 136-133 (.506) record. Alabama did not face Georgia, South Carolina or Tennessee, who totaled a 43-46 record in league play.

Limiting Walks was Key
- Alabama's pitching staff kept the walks down during the 2023 campaign. The Tide arms allowed 236 free passes on the year, a total that finished as the fourth-fewest in the SEC.
- The Crimson Tide allowed five-or-more free passes only 21 times. In those 21 games, UA held a 9-12 record overall.
- When Alabama was able to keep its walk total below five, the Tide owned a 34-9 mark.
Stacking Shutouts
- Alabama tallied seven shutouts on the season, including two in postseason play.
- The seven shutouts tied for the second-most in Crimson Tide single-season history, matching the 2014, 2011 and 1967 teams. The Tide's all-time mark for shutouts is 11 by the 1974 team.
- UA's seven shutouts tied for the sixth-most in Division I and were tied for the fourth-most among SEC teams.
Starting Strong
- Alabama's starting pitchers gave the Crimson Tide a chance at a win nearly every time out.
- UA's starting staff owned a 27-10 record to go with a 3.93 ERA (132 ER/302.2 IP) while averaging 5.0 innings per start. The Tide starters also limited the opposition to a .223 average.
- Additionally, the starting staff struck out 325 batters while walking 111 for a 2.93 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a total that bettered the team mark of 2.51.
- The Tide sent 10 different starters to the mound on the season. That number included Ben Hess (as of March 31) and Grayson Hitt (as of April 8) who combined for 15 starts in 2023 but missed the remainder of the season due to injury.
- Countering their losses was the return of Garrett McMillan, who started each Friday night for the Tide in 2022. McMillan began the 2023 campaign on the injured list with a shoulder issue but returned to the hill at Arkansas on April 2. He then resumed his starting role on April 6 against Mississippi State.
- Also contributing in a big way was Jacob McNairy. The right-hander began the year as a weekend starter before moving to the midweek in mid-March. He then returned to a weekend role on April 16 against Auburn and excelled.
- Luke Holman rounded out the weekend group, finishing second for starts with 15. He began the year as a midweek starter while also providing an option in relief. The sophomore was eventually inserted into the weekend rotation against Kentucky and blossomed into the Tide's ace by season's end.
Tough to Hit Holman
- Luke Holman turned himself into the Crimson Tide's ace as the 2023 season wore on.
- Key to Holman's success was his ability to limit hits. In 13 of his 15 starts in 2023, the sophomore allowed no more than four hits. That impressive mark helped Holman limit opposing batters to a .185 average as a starter.
- Overall, Holman held a .186 average against that finished as the third-lowest in the SEC behind only LSU's Paul Skenes and Tommy Vail of Auburn. The Tide sophomore also gave up only 54 hits on the season, the fifth-fewest of any qualifying starter in the league.
McNairy's 2023 - A Tale of Two Halves
- Jacob McNairy was the Crimson Tide's most reliable pitcher in 2023, making all 17 starts and leading the team in that category along with innings pitched (80.2).
- His 2023 numbers during the regular season were drastically different in the first half compared to the second half. From opening weekend through March, McNairy owned a 5.76 ERA (16 ER/25.0 IP) while allowing 36 hits with 21 strikeouts across six starts - all against non-conference opponents.
- From the beginning of April through the Ole Miss series, McNairy's numbers were significantly better. In eight starts, the right-hander owned a team-low 1.96 ERA (9 ER/41.1 IP) with 31 hits allowed and 45 strikeouts. He gave up one or zero runs in all but one start while striking out fourplus each time out during the second half of the regular season.
- Of his eight starts in the second half of the regular season, six came against SEC opponents. In those six games, McNairy held a 1-0 record with a 2.25 ERA (8 ER/32.0 IP) and limited the opposition to a .214 average.
- McNairy's strong second half was kickstarted by a standout April. He made five starts in the month and maintained a team-low 2.78 ERA (7 ER/22.2 IP), while averaging 4.2 innings per start and limiting the opposition to a .188 average.
- He allowed just one earned run or fewer in four of his five starts and struck out four-or-more batters in each outing.
- Among league arms, McNairy's ERA ranked third while his opposing average was the fourthlowest. He also ranked 12th for innings pitched and allowed the fifth-fewest hits (16) while tying for the sixth-fewest walks (6) in April.
Big-Time Offense in 2023
- Alabama's bats went on a tear during the 2023 season, maintaining a .293 (634-2,162) average and totaling 634 hits. UA averaged 9.9 hits per game and recorded double-digit hits in 36 games (56.3 percent), including 13 contests during Southeastern Conference play.
