Seven Alabama Swimmers Advance to NCAA Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama had seven swimmers qualify for the men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

The Tide advanced three individuals in Leonardo Alcantara, Tommy Hagar and Sean Niewold in four events. Additionally, Alabama qualified in four relays as the team plans on adding Jonny Hoole, Tim Korstanje, Steijn Louter and Zarek Wilson as relay alternates to the nationally bound squad.

The NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 25-28 in Atlanta.

Qualified Swimmers and Events

Leonardo Alcantara paces the Tide, qualifying in both distance free events
Alcantara enters the meet as the ninth overall competitor in the 500 free (4:10.45) and the 21^st ranked competitor in the mile (14:50.00)
Tommy Hagar enters the 200 backstroke in podium contention as the No. 3 overall swimmer in the event with a time of 1:37.92
Sean Niewold holds the No. 14 spot in the 50 free thanks to his 18.76 performance at the Southeastern Conference Championships
Niewold was also invited to swim in the 100 butterfly as the 27^th seed (45.08) and the 100 free as the 30^th seed (41.93), while Alcantara and Hagar were invited to compete in the 200 free as the 32^nd (1:32.67) and 34^th (1:32.70) seeds, respectively
Hagar also earned an invite in the 100 back as the 27^th seed (45.20)
