William Jennings became the first golfer in school history to have two first place finishes across the team’s first three tournaments
FORT WORTH, Texas – Alabama men's golfer William Jennings tied for first overall with a 1-under par 209 to lead the No. 11-ranked Crimson Tide at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab. As a team, Alabama closed the two-day, 54-hole tournament in sixth place with a team total of 13-over par 853 (288-281-284).
Jennings, who won medalist honors at the season-opening Folds of Honor Collegiate, earned his second top finish in just his third tournament of the year. He is the first golfer in program history to achieve the feat.
Head Coach Jay Seawell's Comments
"We had a great week of preparation coming into this tournament. This was a tournament that certainly helps you identify where you are as a program – there were some really good teams and playing at a place like Colonial Country Club which is championship and historic venue, you find out quickly where you are as a program. This team continues to make strides and believe we can be a championship-caliber program. We were able to some good things this week – we competed well and gave ourselves a chance to win and I thought we responded after a tough first round. There are still a lot of things to work on and earn, but I am proud of the way we played throughout the week.
"I thought William played great all week and I am really proud of his continued improvement. He had a chance to win medalist honors in the playoff at the end and that was fun to watch him compete. I keep saying it, but he is one of the best stories in college golf considering where he was six to seven months ago and how far he has come. I am proud of the work he's put in and happy for him that his hard work is showing off."
