Match DayÂ
Damien Nezar and teammate Jason Andrew Fogle from Stellenbosch University faced off against the Swiss duo of Dylan Dietrich from Virginia and Luca Staheli from NC State in the opening round of doubles play. The South African pair would fall but not before putting up a fight, including battling to a 6-4 loss in the second set. Switzerland claimed the match to advance in the tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Opening Ceremony and preparing for the first day of competitionÂ
Damien Nezar spent Wednesday enjoying the Opening Ceremony, alongside his South African teammates. In addition to walking in the Parade of Nations, he listened to local artists and musicians, heard from FISU officials and enjoyed a firework show to officially kick off the event.Â
Damien was also able to visit the tennis courts. The competition, being played down the road in Essen at the ETUF Tennisanlage, began July 17 with doubles action officially getting underway the next day. Nezar and teammate Jason Andrew Fogle (Stellenbosch) will face the Swiss duo of Dylan Dietrich (University of Virginia) and Luca Staheli (NC State).Â
