
Derin Tanriyasükür Set to Join Alabama in the Fall

The Istanbul, Turkey, native made history in 2020 when she competed at the European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship and captured the first medal (bronze, uneven bars) in Turkish gymnastics history in the women’s category
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – 2020 European Championship bronze medalist Derin Tanriyasükür is set to join the Alabama gymnastics program in the fall.
Tanriyasükür made history at the European Championships, as her third-place finish on the uneven bars solidified the first medal in Turkish gymnastics history in the women's category. Other noteworthy accomplishments include a trio of top-three finishes at the 2023 and 2024 National Championships with her club team IBB Sports Club. In 2023, Tanriyasükür won an individual bronze medal in the all-around before guiding her team to a third-place, overall finish. A year later, she bettered her all-around performance and captured silver.
The Istanbul, Turkey, native joins an excellent, incoming freshmen class that includes Azaraya Ra-Akbar, Jasmine Cawley and McKenzie Matters.
