Strong Singles Play Highlights Alabama’s 4-3 Victory over Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament

The Crimson Tide won its opening round match in the SEC Tournament for the third time in four years
COLUMBIA, S.C. – With a 4-3 victory, the Alabama men's tennis team (15-11, 4-10 SEC) defeated Vanderbilt (12-15, 4-10 SEC) and advanced to the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Four singles wins propelled the Crimson Tide to victory over the Commodores. Roan Jones, Enzo Aguiard, Damien Nezar and Matic Kriznik each recorded a victory to pace the Tide in the match.
Match Notes
- Vanderbilt captured the first win of the day on doubles court two, but the Tide evened the battle for the opening event with a 6-4 victory from Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh on court one
- Zach Foster and Enzo Aguiard fought to a 6-6 tie on court three but would fall in a tiebreaker to give the Commodores a 1-0 advantage in the match
- Roan Jones evened the overall score with a straight set, 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 88 Danil Panarin at the top of the lineup
- Aguiard gave UA the lead after claiming a second-set tiebreaker to defeat Nathan Cox 6-3, 7-6(5) on court three
- Vanderbilt captured a win on court six but Damien Nezar recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 decision on court five to keep the Tide in the lead

- Matic Kriznik battled through an opening-set tiebreaker at 7-4 before dropping a second set to Michael Ross
- Kriznik rallied in the third round to notch a 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-2 victory
- Three of the Tide's last four matches have resulted in a 4-3 result as 11 total competitions have seen the score
- Alabama won its opening round match in the SEC Tournament for the third time in the last four years (2022 and 2023)
