FORT WORTH, Texas – Alabama gymnast Rachel Rybicki was named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award, the NCAA announced Tuesday. With the announcement, Rybicki became the fifth gymnast in UA history to receive the prestigious academic award and is the eighth Elite 90 honor for the program.
Double majoring in economics and finance, with a minor in Spanish, Rybicki currently holds a 4.00 GPA. The Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., native was presented with the award during the NCAA women's gymnastics team banquet Tuesday evening.
The Elite 90 award honors the exceptional achievements of student-athletes. The national accolade is given to those who have not only excelled at a national championship level in their sport but have also achieved the highest academic standards among their peers. The Elite 90 is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"Rachel always brings a fierce commitment to excellence to everything she does and has truly established herself as a difference maker within our program. Her positivity is contagious, and she truly invests in others while taking exceptional ownership in every aspect of her development.
