TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama evened its weekend series against No. 2/2 Oklahoma with a 6-1 victory Sunday night at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (29-16, 6-8 SEC) handed Oklahoma (36-4, 10-4 SEC) its largest deficit in a loss this season behind a seven-hit day on offense, including home runs from Kali Heivilin and Abby Duchscherer, while Jocelyn Briski (11-10) pitched a complete game in the circle, holding the Sooners to one run on two hits and a walk.
The Crimson Tide struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning and continued to add to its lead from there, scoring in each of the next three innings to swell the lead to 6-0 including the home runs from Heivilin and Duchscherer. Briski and the Alabama defense held Oklahoma scoreless until the seventh inning when Sydney Barker lifted a two-out solo home run to erase the shutout. A fly ball to left in the next at-bat ended the game and gave the Tide the five-run victory to even the weekend series.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Jocelyn [Briski] sat down 12 in a row at one point in the game. She had no traffic whatsoever on the bases. By far, that was her best game of the year against a very good hitting team. We did not commit an error on defense and only allowed one walk. We just played a really clean game all around. We were much more aggressive at the plate and the small ball really helped us."
