After securing the doubles point, the Crimson Tide won a pair of singles matches in the battle against the Sooners
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team (11-9, 3-8 SEC) battled the No.21 Oklahoma Sooners (13-6, 6-4 SEC) to a 4-3 loss on Saturday, in a match that came down to a three-set contest on court three.
Alabama secured the doubles point with back-to-back wins from Roan Jones and Matic Kriznik on court three and a victory from Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh on court one, respectively.
Filip Planinsek downed his opponent on court one, while Kriznik fought through a three-set battle on court six to pace the Tide in singles action.
From Head Coach George Husack
"Good start for us today as our focus, energy and purpose was so clear in doubles. It was aggressive and relentless, something we preach daily. Oklahoma did a great job responding to our first punch and quickly put us on the ropes in a couple matches. We fought our way through some tight moments. Matic didn't allow doubts to keep him from prevailing in the third (set). Super job by him. Filip was challenged a lot today by a fearless player. It forced him to make some mental adjustments to overtake his opponent and that's why Filip has become such a good competitor. Andrii gave it his all, even without much gas left in the tank down the stretch, but it wasn't consistent enough across all six courts today. That cost us in the end. So, we all move onto another opportunity to respond to the situation before us."
