Softball Evens Weekend Series with 2-1 Win Saturday over Texas A&M

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alabama softball evened its weekend series with a gutsy 2-1 win over Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at Davis Diamond.
Alabama (22-11, 2-3 SEC) and Texas A&M (25-5, 5-3 SEC) traded runs in the opening inning and it remained 1-1 until Catelyn Riley (6-1) helped her own cause in the circle with a fourth-inning solo home run to make it 2-1. That proved enough as a stingy Crimson Tide defense paired with solid relief innings from Emily Winstead and Jocelyn Briski closed it out, with Briski earning her first save of the season.
Alabama freshman Audrey Vandagriff stole her 40th base of the year, moving her into a tie for 10th place in Alabama single-season history with Kelly Kretschman's 1998 freshman total. Kayla Braud's 41 from 2012 is next on the list with Kretschman's 43 from 2000 above that.
