Banks Wins Silver to Lead Alabama Track and Field on Second Day of SEC Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alabama track and field added to its medal count Friday as men's weight thrower Ruben Banks captured silver to highlight day two action at the 2025 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships. The second-place finisher launched a throw of 22.44-meter (73-7.50) on his second attempt. The feat marks consecutive days that the Crimson Tide has medaled in an event.
On the track, sprinter Jekovan Rhetta clocked a personal-best-tying 6.63 (q) in the men's 60-meter prelims to advance to Saturday's event final, with a chance to add to the UA men's medal count. In the men's 800m, Oussama El Bouchayby won his heat with a time of 1:46.78 to also reach the event final.
Entering the final day of competition, the UA men sit in a tie for fourth place with 32 points, while the UA women's eight points after two days of competition have them in 11th place overall.
