After going up a goal, UA played with 10 players for 76 minutes of the game against the Commodores
PENSACOLA, Fla. –– After taking an early 1-0 lead against No. 8 Vanderbilt (14-3-1) in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, a red card forced the Alabama soccer team (11-8-1) to play with 10 players for 76 minutes. The Commodores would take advantage of UA’s man-down formation, scoring two goals to take a 2-1 victory.
Nadia Ramadan tallied the opening goal in the 12th minute of the game off a give-and-go with Larkin Thomason. However, less than two minutes later, a red card on goalkeeper Madi Munguia for blocking a goal-scoring opportunity set Olivia Stafford up for Vandy’s tying goal.
The Tide held Commodores at a 1-1 score until the 50th minute when an uncollected shot reached Reagan Pentz for Vanderbilt’s game-winning goal.

From Head Coach Wes Hart
“Disappointed with the result today, but could not be prouder of our team’s performance. We came out and dominated the start of the game and scored a great goal to take an early lead. The red card a few minutes later, obviously, changed the game. We made a tactical adjustment and decided to defend in a low block and looked to break out and counterattack. I thought the team executed the game plan extremely well. Despite being down a player, we managed to create a couple big chances, but unfortunately, did not capitalize on them.
“We will take a few days off and rest up and recover for the NCAA Tournament. We will learn our fate next week. I believe we’ve done enough to earn a first-round home game. Excited to make a run.”
