William Jennings was recognized among the nation’s top collegiate golfers
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's golfer William Jennings has been named to the Final Fall Watch List for the Haskins, which honors the nation's top collegiate golfer. Jennings' recognition comes after an impressive fall season, highlighted by a pair of first place finishes and a runner-up result across the the Crimson Tide's four fall tournaments.
First presented in 1971, the Fred Haskins Award honors the best male college golfer in the United States each year. The winner is chosen by votes from college golfers, coaches, and members of the golf media. Past winners, including Alabama's Justin Thomas in 2012, have gone on to win 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world.
William Jennings, The Haskins Award Watch List
- Had an outstanding fall season guiding the No. 11/12 Alabama men's golf team through four tournaments
- His fall was highlighted by capturing medalist honors at the season-opening Folds of Honor Collegiate to help lead the Tide to the team championship, finishing the event at six-under par 207
- Tied for first overall at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, finishing 1-under par (209) before narrowly missing medalist honors in a playoff
- He finished that event as one of only five golfers in the 75-man field to finish the tournament below par
- Earned the SEC Golfer of the Week following his performance at the Ben Hogan Collegiate
- Also collected a runner up finish at the Fallen Oak Collegiate with a season-best 12-under par 204
- Closed the fall campaign a combined 11 strokes below par to average 69.83 per round and boasted a -0.91 average vs. par
- In addition, he leads the team in total rounds in the 60s (6) and rounds of par or better (10)
