Women’s Tennis Looks to the Spring after Competitive Fall

The Crimson Tide will open its 2025 Spring season on Monday, Jan. 20
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After a competitive start to the 2024-25 season, the No. 22 Alabama Women's tennis team will start its 2025 spring campaign on Monday, Jan. 20. The Crimson Tide will travel to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman with first sever set for 10 a.m. CT.
Rolling Through the Fall
- Alabama welcomed Maria Martinez Vaquero and Sara Nayar to The Capstone over the summer.
- Martinez Vaquero transferred from San Fransisco and Nayar transferred from N.C State
- The Crimson Tide opened its 2024 fall campaign in Greenville, S.C. at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic
- UA brought home six total wins during the three-day tournament, which included Petra Sedlackova advancing to the final round of her singles flight
- Sedlackova carried that momentum into the ITA All-American Championships where the senior defeated then-No. 27 Cristina Tiglea (Baylor), 6-2, 6-4
- Following a week of rest, Alabama traveled to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
- The Tide's double pairing of Sara Nayar and Klara Milicevic highlighted the team's appearance in the tournament, as the duo advanced to the quarterfinals
- UA concluded the fall season at home hosting the annual Roberta Alison Fall Classic
- Alabama earned three victories during the two-day tournament, which included a win from senior Ansley Cheshire during her last few matches with the Tide before graduating in December
- The Tide's Margaux Maquet and Martinez Vaquero spent the 2024 Fall season playing in the professional circuit
- The two earned their first title after finishing as runners-up in the W35 Punta Cana on Sept. 7
- Maquet and Martinez Vaquero will return to The Capstone full-time for the 2025 Spring campaign.
Spring Swings and Serves
- Two new faces will join Alabama in Maria Andrienko and Zara Larke
- Andrienko is joining the Tide from Barnaul, Russia, while Larke is a transfer from Virginia, originally from Sunshine Coast, Australia
- UA will begin with back-to-back matches starting on Jan. 20 at Furman followed by the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 25 at North Carolina
- Alabama will then have five-straight home matches as the Tide will host Tulane (Feb. 1), Georgia Tech (Feb. 11), ETSU (Feb. 14), Minnesota (Feb. 16) and Mississippi State (Feb. 23), which will mark the start of SEC play
- After a brief stint on the road, UA returns to the Alabama Tennis Stadium to welcome LSU (March 7) and Ole Miss (March 9). The Iron Bowl of Alabama Tennis is set for March 14 as the Auburn Tigers come into town, followed by the Florida Gators on the 16th
- Later in the Spring, Alabama will host, the reigning SEC Champions, Georgia (March 28), South Carolina (March 30) and the reigning NCAA Champions, Texas A&M (April 6) to close out its home slate
- The SEC Championships will be held April 16-20 in Auburn, Ala., with the NCAA Regionals to follow on May 3
