Firehawk Invitational on Deck for Men’s Cross Country Contingent

The Crimson Tide returns to action Saturday morning in Danville, Ala.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A handful of student-athletes from the No. 9 Alabama men's cross country team will make the trek to Danville, Ala., for the Firehawk Invitational. Located at the Oakville Indian Mounds, the men's 8k race will start at 9:45 a.m. CT with Kai Crawford, Andrew Dennis, Knox Exton, Evan Trapp and Dylan Wood toeing the line for UA.
Entering the weekend, the UA men are ranked No. 9 in the nation and No. 1 in the South Region, according to the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Week 1 Rankings.
Saturday's race marks the last in-state competition for the Tide until its Crimson Classic home meet on Friday, Oct. 18, to close the 2024 regular season.

The Playback
- In the season opener, Alabama swept both the team and individual titles at the Southern Showcase
- Victor Kiprop claimed the men's crown via a 23:25.87 run across the 8K course, while Doris Lemngole (16:03.85) secured the women's 5K title
- Joining Kiprop in the top four of the men's race were Dennis Kipruto (23:35.64 | third) and Hillary Cheruiyot (23:37.60 | fourth), as newcomer Pheline Mining (16:35.49 | second) finished behind Lemngole in the women's race
- A trio of SEC Weekly honors were awarded to the Crimson Tide following the successful sweep
- Kiprop was named the SEC's Men's Runner of the Week after clocking the league's fastest 8k time over the weekend
- Lemngole secured women's runner of the week honors after running the SEC's fastest 5k time
- Kipruto earned his first men's freshman of the week accolade after recording the second-fastest 8k time around the conference
