Former Crimson Tide gymnasts Luisa Blanco and Shallon Olsen – representing Colombia and Canada, respectively – will be competing in Paris on the world’s biggest stage
PARIS – The 2024 Paris Olympics will mark the third Olympiad where multiple Alabama gymnasts will be competing simultaneously as Luisa Blanco (Colombia) and Shallon Olsen (Canada) get set to compete at Bercy Arena, starting Sunday, July 28.
Set to make her Olympics debut, Blanco will become the sixth UA gymnast to ever compete at the Olympics as Olsen will be making her third-straight appearance at the Olympics – the most of any Alabama gymnast and the only one to ever appear in multiple Olympiads.
Also in Paris is assistant coach Justin Spring who will be serving as an NBC commentator during the men's gymnastics competition that will run from July 27-Aug. 5.
Thursday, Aug. 1
Luisa Blanco | Colombia | All-Around Final
- Blanco accumulated a 50.199 score in the women's all-around final, making history as the first Colombian woman to compete in an Olympic final in artistic gymnastics
- Her highest score of the night came on the vault where she secured a 13.500 score, followed by a 12.866 score on the balance beam - her final event of the competition
- Blanco earned a 12.700 score on the floor exercise before also registering an 11.133 score on the uneven bars, ultimately finishing 23rd in the competition
Tuesday, July 30
Shallon Olsen | Canada | Team Final
- Olsen and Team Canada finished fifth in the women's team final behind a team score of 162.432
- Competing as anchor on Canada's vault rotation, Olsen registered a monster 14.400 score to propel Canada to a 41.866 rotation score
- Canada's 41.866 team score on vault was the third-highest on the apparatus, behind only podium medalists United States (first, 44.100) and Brazil (third, 42.366)
- Olsen's 14.400 score was the highest of the evening by a Canadian gymnast as the Alabama grad became one of only five gymnasts on vault to reach the 14.400-threshold

- Proudly representing her parents' home country, Blanco scored 51.698 in the All-Around to secure her place in the final on Thursday, Aug. 1
- With the feat, Blanco becomes the first Colombian woman to qualify for the Olympic final of the women's All-Around
Shallon Olsen | Canada | Qualifications
- Representing her country, Canada, Olsen used a 14.166 score on vault to successfully reach the vault finals for her third consecutive Olympics
- Olsen and Team Canada also qualified for the Team Final after earning their first women's team qualification in 12 years
