As the opening ceremonies get underway at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday, July 26, a total of 16 Crimson Tide student-athletes, past and present, will continue The University of Alabama's proud tradition of excellence at the Summer Games.
In addition to the student-athletes, Alabama gymnastics assistant coach Justin Spring will serve as an NBC commentator during the men's gymnastics competition.
This year's group of athletes will take part in five different sports, representing 14 countries, including two who are competing for the United States (Daniel Haugh, Shelby McEwen | Track and Field). This year's contingent also includes three current student-athletes, along with five making their Olympic debut, five who are making their second trip to the Games, three who are coming back for thirds, as well as another trio who will be making their fourth-straight appearance at an Olympics.
This will mark the 14th consecutive Summer Olympic Games that Alabama has been represented, dating back to 1972 in Munich. The Crimson Tide's 2024 total marks the third-straight Olympiad with at least 15 Crimson Tide student-athletes and the fourth time in the last six Olympiads (2014, 2021, 2016, 2004) that UA will have at least 15 Olympians at a single Games.
