
Incoming Alabama Diver Nigel Chambers Wins 2024 TYR Junior America’s Cup

Chambers, who will join the Alabama swimming and diving team in the fall, scored 480.55 points to win gold in the platform at the meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Incoming freshman Nigel Chambers won the TYR Junior America's Cup platform title after capturing 480.55 in the finals. Chambers was selected to represent Canada at the meet on both the platform and 3m board.
The TYR Junior America's Cup is a junior international invitational meet organized by the Mission Viejo Nadadores. Participation in this event is subject to nomination by the Federation.
Chambers' Performance
- Chambers was one of five divers to advance to the finals on the platform after scoring a 413.35 in the preliminary round for fifth place
- Chambers opened the finals with a carry over score of 174.45 from his first four rounds in the prelims
- He dominated the finals, scoring above of 60.0 on three of his four dives with a fifth dive tallying a 59.20
- He hit his series high of 67.20 twice in the finals, first off an inward 3 ½ somersault tuck and the second time off a back 2 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist pike
- He competed off the 10m in all five of his dives in the final round of competition
- Chambers concluded the finals with a 13.30 advantage over second place
- In addition to his victory on the platform, Chambers reached the finals on the 3m board, finishing 12th with a 456.40 score
- Chambers was one of 16 athletes and one of just nine males selected to represent Canada at the 68-person event
- Athletes were nominated for five different events: 1m and 3m springboard, platform, A/B 3m synchro and A/B platform synchro events
