Tarsis Orogot Named USTFCCCA Men’s National Athlete of the Week

The Ugandan clocked the third-fastest mark in collegiate history for the 200 meters, fastest time by East African in history
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field's Tarsis Orogot was named Men's National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after his electrifying 200-meter performance at the 2024 SEC Outdoor Championships.
The Soroti, Uganda, native excelled in the 200-meter dash in Gainesville, Fla., clocking a blistering personal-best time of 19.75 on his way to claiming the event title. His performance not only marked the third-fastest time in collegiate history but also established new records, including the Ugandan national record, East African record, school record, and meet record.
The Junior also helped the Crimson Tide to a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter, collecting a personal-best 10.06, and a sixth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay.
This is the second consecutive year that Orogot has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.
