Filip Planinsek Named SEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

The Crimson Tide junior posted a pair of singles wins over ranked opponents to lead UA to victory against Ole Miss and No. 11 Texas A&M
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Alabama's Filip Planinsek was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Planinsek led the Tide to a pair of SEC wins over Ole Miss (W, 5-2) and No. 11 Texas A&M (W, 4-3) with crucial singles wins in both matches.
Planinsek's performance was highlighted by an upset win over the No. 22-ranked singles player in the country, Raphael Perot from Texas A&M. Additionally, he clinched the victory for the Tide against the Rebels defeating 50th-ranked Nikola Slavic.

- Captured a pair of singles wins as he competed at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles
- Ranked 45th nationally in singles and 53rd in doubles in the latest ITA poll
- Recorded an upset, come-from-behind win over Texas A&M's No. 22-ranked Raphael Perot in singles with a 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3 score
- The win against Perot tied the match against the No. 11-ranked Aggies, 3-3, and came just seconds before teammate Roan Jones won a second-set tiebreaker on court five for the overall team victory
- Also posted a 6-4, 7-6(7) win against Ole Miss' Nikola Slavic, ranked 50th, to clinch the match for the Tide
- Battled Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt from Ole Miss to a 4-4 unfinished match
- The win over Texas A&M marked the program's first victory against the Aggies
- Planinsek has won five of last seven singles matches
