STARKVILLE, Miss. –– The No. 21 Alabama men's tennis team (15-10, 4-5 SEC) fell to No. 13 Mississippi State (15-5, 7-2 SEC) in a 4-3 decision on Sunday.
After the Bulldogs took the opening point, Alabama used back-to-back wins from Andrii Zimnokh and Filip Planinsek on courts two and one, respectively, to take the lead. Mississippi State secured the win on court five to tie the score at 2-2, but Matias Ponce De Leon moved UA to three points with a victory at the No. 4 spot. The Tide, however, would fall on courts six and three, respectively.
Match Notes
- Mississippi State posted wins on doubles courts three and two, respectively, to open the match with a 1-0 lead
- Zimnokh evened the match with an upset victory over No. 39 Petar Jovanovic, defeating the Bulldogs' No. 2 singles player 6-4, 6-4
- No. 42-ranked Filip Planinsek would follow with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over 118th-ranked Nemanja Malesevic at the No. 1 spot to give UA the lead
- After a loss on court five, Ponce De Leon battled to a three-set, come-from-behind win on court four, going 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Dusan Milanovic
- Mississippi State, however, would win the final two matches to secure the team victory
