Zimnokh Named SEC Freshman of the Week

The UA freshman earned the honor for the first time in his career
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Alabama's Andrii Zimnokh was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Zimnokh went undefeated over the weekend to lead Alabama to a pair of SEC wins as the Tide topped both Arkansas and LSU in 5-2 decisions. The freshman moved to No. 2 in the singles lineup, where he defeated Gerard Planelles from Arkansas, 6-4, 6-2, and George Stoupe from LSU, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In doubles action, Zimnokh and partner Filip Planinsek (69th-ranked doubles team) knocked off Arkansas' 29th-ranked doubles team of Bozo Barun and Jared Horwood and LSU's 75th-ranked team of Aleksi Lofman and Stefan Latinovic with 6-4 victories in both matches.

- Recorded his fifth-straight singles win, defeating opponents from South Carolina, Florida, Alabama A&M, Arkansas and LSU during that span
- Has only lost two singles matches in conference play for a 5-2 record
- Played the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup
- On a four-match winning streak in doubles, including wins over two ranked doubles pairings in No. 29 Barun and Horwood from Arkansas and No. 27 Lofman and Latinovic from LSU
- Leads the team in doubles wins with 22 this season
