The super senior has recorded over 100 hours of community service this year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama gymnastics graduate student Ella Burgess has been selected to the 2024 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league announced Friday.
In her final season as an Alabama gymnast, Burgess has put in more than 100 hours of community service. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native has primarily spent her time at Verner Elementary School where she volunteers with the students during their P.E. class. Interspersed through her time with Verner, Burgess has also given her time to Big Brother Big Sister where she actively gets to mentor to a first-grade girl and be a source of encouragement in her life. Back in the fall semester, Burgess served at the annual Halloween Extravaganza where student-athletes from various Alabama sports teams come together for a trick-or-treat event for the local Tuscaloosa community. Following that, every December, the Alabama gymnastics program hosts its RISE Holiday Party where preschool children from the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences' The RISE Center get to play with current gymnasts, like Burgess, on each apparatus during a Christmas party hosted at the program's Frances Smith Practice Facility.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for its 21 league sponsored sports, looking to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to the community through service efforts.
