Luisa Blanco Earns Third SEC Gymnast of the Week Honor of Season

For the third time this season, the super senior recorded the highest all-around score of the week by any SEC gymnast (39.750), as her four 9.900-or-higher scores helped push the Crimson Tide to a 198.025 total against top-ranked Oklahoma
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third time this season, Alabama gymnast Luisa Blanco was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
In the final regular-season meet of her career, Luisa Blanco posted four consecutive scores of 9.900 or higher as her 39.750 in the all-around helped push Alabama to a 198.025 score against top-ranked Oklahoma. For the third time this season, the Dallas, Texas, native posted the highest all-around score by any SEC gymnast, as the super senior played a contributing role in the Crimson Tide becoming the first opponent all season to hit the 198-score threshold against the Sooners and the only program around the league to hit 198 in a road environment. Blanco's 9.975 performance as anchor on beam – tied for the highest by any SEC gymnast – played a deciding factor in the Tide steamrolling to a season-high 49.625 rotation score on the apparatus. Prior to that, Blanco grabbed her first 9.975 mark in Norman, Okla., securing the highest score on the uneven bars by a fifth-year gymnast across the league.
The No. 7 Alabama gymnastics program turns its sights towards New Orleans, La., for the SEC Championships on Saturday, March 23. The Crimson Tide will enter the meet as a No. 4 seed and will compete in the evening session alongside No. 1 seed LSU, No. 2 seed Florida and No. 3 Kentucky, starting at 7 p.m. CT. Both sessions (Session I, 2:30 p.m., seeds 5-8) will air on SEC Network.
