No. 18 Alabama Finishes Third at Blue-Gray Tennis Classic

After falling to Princeton, 4-3, in the semifinals, the Crimson Tide rallied to take a 4-2 victory over Auburn in the final match of the weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala. –– The No. 18 Alabama men's tennis team (10-5) finished third at the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic. After falling 4-3 to Princeton (11-4) in the semifinals, the Crimson Tide rallied for a 4-2 victory over Auburn (7-4) in the consolation match.
Andrii Zimnokh and Roan Jones highlighted the day for the Tide as both student-athletes went undefeated in singles play. Additionally, Zimnokh recorded a win in his singles match against Rice on Friday to go 3-0 in the tournament.

"A challenging weekend at such an invaluable event on our schedule. The Blue Gray is not for the faint hearted. We responded well this evening against Auburn after a disappointing finish earlier in the day. We have work to do as we determine just how good we can be. Now it's off to SEC season which will demand more from us each week in practice. We will keep moving forward."
Match Notes – Princeton
- Alabama returned to the courts to play Princeton after the two teams competed in doubles on Friday
- UA started with a 1-0 advantage after securing the doubles point
- In singles, Andrii Zimnokh captured the first win of the day, topping Landon Ardila 6-3, 6-0 on court four
- Roan Jones battled his way through a first set tiebreaker, 7-5, before taking a dominant 6-1 victory in the second set for the win over Ellis Short on court five
- Princeton however, would win on courts two, six, three and one respectively to claim the team victory
Match Notes – Auburn
- Auburn tallied the first win in doubles with a victory on court three, but the Crimson Tide used wins on courts one and two, respectively, to secure the opening point
- Enzo Aguiard and Zach Foster took a 6-4 victory against Raul Dobai and Finn Murgett at the No. 1 spot, before the 35th-ranked team of Filip Planinsek and Andrii Zimnokh downed Billy Blades and Alejandro Moreno 7-5 on court two
- Auburn recorded its first point with a singles victory on court two, but Matias Ponce De Leon recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Alejandro Moreno on court three to put UA back in the lead
- The Tigers would once again tie the match after taking the win on court six
- Andrii Zimnokh and Roan Jones would claim the final two matches to give UA the team victory
- Zimnokh defeated Blaydes 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on court four while Jones downed Nicholas Heng 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on court five
