The Crimson Tide defeats Southern Indiana, 2-0, to close its weekend at Rhoads Stadium

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball capped an undefeated weekend at the Easton Bama Bash with a 2-0 shutout win over Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama (10-0) scored both of its runs in the first inning before the Crimson Tide and Southern Indiana (1-4) battled in a pitchers' duel the rest of the way. Alea Johnson (1-0) entered to pitch with two outs in the first inning after an injury to starter Lauren Esman and threw 5.1 shutout innings to earn the win, tying her previous career high with six strikeouts. Kayla Beaver secured the final three outs of the game, grabbing her second save of the weekend.

"We always say if our pitching and our defense are constant, we're doing great. Also, if you face a team that never scores, you'll never lose. Today was a prime example of that. We scored in the first inning and that was it. Their pitcher threw a great game and Alea [Johnson] pitched great for us when she didn't think she was going to have to come in so early. [Kayla] Beaver eventually came in and shut the door for us."
