Alabama Concludes World Aquatic Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Members of the Alabama swimming team concluded the World Aquatic Championships on Sunday.

Two UA swimmers finaled at the meet as Diana Petkova (seventh place) reached the top eight in the 100m freestyle and alumni Victor Johansson (sixth place) found a spot in the final swim of the 800m freestyle. Additionally, Kaique Alves and the Brazilian 4x100m freestyle relay team set the South American record in relay the event (3:04.84), while Petkova topped the Bulgarian record in the 100m medley (58.28) and 200m medley (2:09.50) and alum Kalia Antoniou set the Cyprus record in the 100m freestyle (53.45).

Meet Highlights

Diana Petkova reached the finals in the 100m medley after setting the Bulgarian national record in the event twice, swimming a 58.79 the preliminary/heats and a 58.28 in the semifinals
She would finish seventh overall with a time of 58.73
Kaique Alves, alongside Brazil's 4x100m freestyle relay team, captured an impressive 3:04.84 time to record the fastest South American time in the event, aided by a 45.82 split from the UA senior. Brazil would go on to finish fifth at the championships.
Victor Johansson posted three top-10 finishes, including a finals appearance and a sixth-place finish in the 800m freestyle. He also finished 10^th in both the 400m and 1500m freestyle
Petkova has set two Bulgarian records at the World Aquatic Championships, topping the country's standard in the 100m medley (58.28) and the 200m medley (2:09.50)
Kalia Antoniou set a Cyprus national record in the 100m freestyle (53.45)
