Alabama Concludes Opening Day of ITA Sectional Championships

Andrii Zimnokh and Roan Jones captured wins in singles action as Zimnokh and Zach Foster secured a win in doubles play
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Alabama men's tennis team closed the opening day of the ITA Sectional Championships Thursday with a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory.
Andrii Zimnokh downed Indiana's Jip van Assendelft in straight sets including sweeping the opening round, 6-0. In the second set, Zimnokh battled to a 6-6 score, before securing a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker.
Roan Jones recorded a come-from-behind victory against Georgia Tech's Gianluca Carlini. Jones fell 6-3 in the opening set before capturing a 6-3 victory in round two. The UA junior dropped just two games in the third round to win the match.
In doubles, Zimnokh and Zach Foster dropped the opening set, 6-3, to Florida State's Jamie Connel and Corey Craig. The UA duo would battle back with a 6-2 victory in the second round, before clinching the match with a 10-6 decision in the deciding set.
