
Crimson Tide Trio Earns Yearly SEC Cross Country Awards

Doris Lemngole was named SEC Runner of the Year, Dismus Lokira earned SEC Freshman of the Year and Dan Waters was voted the women’s SEC Coach of the Year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the heels of winning the women's Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships and finishing second in the men's championships, Alabama earned a trio of yearly SEC awards, the league office announced Tuesday.
Women's 6k champion Doris Lemngole was voted the 2024 SEC Runner of the Year, while Dismus Lokira earned SEC Freshman of the Year accolades. For the second time in three years, Dan Waters was named the women's SEC Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Doris Lemngole – Women's SEC Runner of the Year
- Lemngole has clocked a top-two finish in all five of her races this season, including winning the SEC women's 6k crown
- The honor is the second Of the Year accolade for the standout sophomore after first claiming Women's SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2023
- She is the second Crimson Tide student-athlete to be named the women's SEC Runner of the Year, following Mercy Chelangat in 2020 and 2021
- Overall, Alabama has earned women's SEC Runner of the Year accolades three times, including three of the last five
Dismus Lokira – Men's SEC Freshman of the Year
- Lokira finished fourth or better in every race this season, including taking the NCAA South Regional 10k crown
- He propelled the UA men to their third NCAA Championships appearance in four years after also claiming their eighth Regional Championship
- He earned SEC Runner of the Week honors as a freshman after winning the men's 8k race at the Lakefront Invitational
- The rookie is the fifth member of the UA men's program to earn SEC Freshman of the Year, following Peter Etoot (2002), Augustus Maiyo (2005), Andrew Kirwa (2007) and Victor Kiprop (2021)
Dan Waters – Women's SEC Coach of the Year
- Waters led Alabama to the program's fourth SEC women's title and second in three years
- The Crimson Tide women have won all but one meet during the 2024 campaign
- The UA women also captured their fifth regional championship in program history, advancing to their fifth consecutive National Championships
