Leonardo Alcantara set a school record while Cadence Vincent broke a facility record to pace the Tide in its wins over Florida State and LSU
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Leonardo Alcantara and Cadence Vincent earned Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Alcantara set a school record in the 1,000 freestyle while Vincent broke a facility record with the 200 medley relay to highlight Crimson Tide's wins over LSU and Florida State. The UA women's team defeated the No. 13 Tigers, 157.50-142.50, and the Seminoles, 196.50-103.50, while the No. 20 Alabama men downed No. 19 LSU, 167-133, and No. 22 Florida State, 191-109.
Leonardo Alcantara – Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week
- Won the distance freestyle events in the Tide's double dual meet against LSU and Florida State, taking the top time in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle
- Set a school record in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 8:53.81, topping the previous standard of 8:54.69 set by Mark Randall in 2009
- Swam a time of 4:17.71 in the 500 freestyle to claim first place and land him eighth nationally in the event
- Ranks 11th nationally in the 1,000 freestyle
- His 1,000 freestyle time also ranks second in the SEC, while his 500 freestyle time ranks fourth
Cadence Vincent – Women's Swimmer of the Week
- Won three of four events over the weekend, securing the top time in the 50 and 100 freestyle as well as the 200 medley relay
- Finished second with the 400 freestyle relay
- Ranks eighth nationally in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, while holding the second-fastest time in the conference in both events
- Won the 50 freestyle by over four tenths of a second and the 100 freestyle by seven tenths of a second
- Set a 200 medley relay facility record with a time of 1:35.10 alongside Emily Jones, Kasia Norman and Jada Scott, as the quartet topped the previous time of 1:35.81 by seven tenths of a second
- Vincent and the 200 medley relay team rank third nationally and second in the conference in the event
