
Three SEC Weekly Honors Awarded to Cross Country Following Lakefront Invitational

Individual title winners Dismus Lokira and Doris Lemngole were named the Men’s and Women’s SEC Runner of the Week, respectively, as Brenda Tuwei earned Women’s Freshman of the Week honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a dominating performance at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, Alabama cross country racked up a trio of Southeastern Conference weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday. Following their individual title-claiming runs, Dismus Lokira and Doris Lemngole were named the SEC Men's and Women's Runner of the Week, respectively, as third-place finisher Brenda Tuwei secured her first SEC Women's Freshman of the Week honor.
Lemngole, Lokira and Tuwei were three of six total Crimson Tide runners to record a top-five finish across both the men's 8k and women's 6k races. Around the league, both Lokira (22:41.88, 8k) and Lemngole (18:48.18, 6k) clocked SEC-leading times in their respective races to further their successful showing in the toughest road meet of Alabama's season.
Tuesday's announcement marks the second time this season Alabama has accumulated three conference honors in one week.
Dismus Lokira – Men's Runner of the Week
- Captured his first individual win of the season, in his first race of the season, to help propel the UA men to a second-place team finish
- His 22:41.88 time was the fastest of any 8k runner throughout the SEC over the weekend
- Spearheaded a UA 1-2-3 sweep in a men's race, alongside teammates Victor Kiprop (second) and Dennis Kipruto (third), that featured two other schools ranked in the top 20
Doris Lemngole – Women's Runner of the Week
- Secured her second-straight women's individual title this season to propel the UA women to a dominating, 57-point performance to secure the team title
- Clocking an SEC-leading 6k time (18:48.18), she led the Tide as Alabama finished 14 points ahead of the reigning national champion and current No. 1 NC State who took second
- Paced Alabama to a 1-3-5 finish in the women's 6k race alongside teammates Brenda Tuwei and Pheline Mining, respectively
Brenda Tuwei – Women's Freshman of the Week
- Secured a third-place finish in her first collegiate cross country race to help guide the UA women to a dominating, 57-point performance to secure the team title
- Clocking the SEC's second-fastest 6k time (19:16.06), she aided the Tide as Alabama finished 14 points ahead of the reigning national champion and current No. 1 NC State who took second
- Was one of three UA runners to finish in the top five of the women's 6k race alongside teammates Lemngole (first) and Mining (fifth)
