
Justin Spring Promoted to Associate Head Coach

Spring is entering his third season as a member of the Crimson Tide’s gymnastics coaching staff
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama gymnastics head coach Ashley Johnston announced Friday the promotion of Justin Spring to associate head coach. Spring has served on the Crimson Tide's coaching staff since June of 2022.
With the assistance of Spring's leadership, Alabama reached its 39th-NCAA Championships appearance in 2024. Alabama saw multiple gymnasts earn All-America honors, as well as All-SEC accolades, last season, as 13 gymnasts were also named Scholastic All-Americans – the program's 14th consecutive year with double digit honorees and the 18th time since 1999.

"For the past three years, Justin's enthusiasm, passion and experience in and around the sport of gymnastics, has had such a strong and meaningful impact on our program. As an NCAA champion and an Olympian, he does a wonderful job of sharing his knowledge and wisdom to our student-athletes with an energetic and joyful approach. I'm very grateful to have him on our staff and I'm excited to name him the associate head coach of our program."

- Entering his third season on the Alabama gymnastics coaching staff
- Led 21 different UA vault routines in 2024 to a 9.9-or-higher score, featuring two career-first Perfect 10s from former gymnast Luisa Blanco and rising senior Lilly Hudson
- Has seen four different Crimson Tide gymnasts earn 17 All-America honors, as rising junior Gabby Gladieux also claimed the individual vault title at the 2023 Southeastern Conference Championships
- Spent 12 seasons as the head coach of the Illinois men's gymnastics team
- Guided 11 gymnasts to individual NCAA titles, including coaching student-athletes to titles in 2010, 2011 and 2012
- Named the Big Ten Coach of the Year four separate times (2018, 2012, 2011, 2010)
- Four-time NCAA individual national champion as a student-athlete at Illinois
- 13-time All-American
- Led the Illini to runner-up finishes at the 2006 NCAA and Big Ten Championships
- 2006 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year
