Three Crimson Tide golfers among top 30 entering Saturday’s second round action
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The No. 11 Alabama men's golf team finished opening round action at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Friday, ending the day in a 10th-place tie at 6-over par 294.
Dominic Clemons paced the Crimson Tide, carding an opening round score of even par 72, with Jonathan Griz and Nick Gross just one stroke back of Clemons.
Alabama will tee off the second round on the par 72, 7,092-yard Golf Club of Georgia at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET) Saturday morning.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Dominic Clemons finished with three birdies and three bogeys on his way to his fifth round of par or better this season, ending the day in a tie for 21st overall
- Nick Gross and Jonathan Griz are tied for 29th after each carded a 1-over par 73 in round one
- After carding a three-over par on his front nine, Gross collected the team's first eagle of the year on his way to closing with a 2-under par on his back nine
- Jack Mitchell is in 55th at 4-over par 76 with Jones Free in 69th at 6-over (78)
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
- No. 7 Virginia leads the 14-team field at 9-under par, one stroke better than No. 39 UCLA
- No. 44 Duke (-5) is in third, followed by No. 46 Charlotte (-4) and No. 10 Vanderbilt (-3)
- The Crimson Tide is in a three-way tie for 10th alongside No. 17 Tennessee and No. 24 Stanford
- This marks Alabama's seventh appearance in the event, and the Tide's first since 2022
- The 14-team field features eight teams that competed at the 2024 NCAA Championship and seven who are currently ranked in the top 25 in the first set of rankings from Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
