Alabama Honors NCAA Singles Champion Filip Planinsek

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - NCAA Singles Champion Filip Planinsek was honored over the weekend for his outstanding accomplishments during the 2023-24 season. Planinsek earned the first-ever NCAA title for Alabama men's tennis team and the first-ever NCAA singles title between both the men's and women's programs.

The weekend opened with media appearances by head coach George Husack and Planinsek's doubles partner and 2024 Southeastern Confernce All-Freshman Team honoree Andrii Zimnokh appearing on Hey Coach. Planinsek would have his first media appearance on Friday morning as a guest on the Gary Harris Show.

Friday night, the Crimson Racket Club held a celebration in Planinsek's honor as Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox, director of athletics Greg Bryne, Crimson Racket Club president Bob Singleton and CRC board member and men's and women's announcer Alan Cunningham all made speeches at the event. Planinsek was presented with his 2024 NCAA Singles Championship ring at the event.
The weekend celebration continued as Planinsek appeared on Champions Lane the next morning alongside Roger Hoover, before being recognized in front of 100,000 fans on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
