Gymnastics Concludes Team Season at NCAA Norman Regional
Our gymnastics team, under first-year head coach Ashley Johnston, wrapped up the team portion of its season Saturday in the finals of the NCAA's Norman Regional, placing fourth with a 197.650. We are extremely proud of the team's accomplishments this year, posting four scores in the top-20 all-time and finishing the season scoring a 197-or-better in nine of its last 10 meets. Individually, Luisa Blanco will represent the Tide in Fort Worth as an individual as she qualified for the uneven bars, scoring a 9.975 last week. We are cheering for you, Luisa!
Men's Swimming and Diving Posts Top-20 Finish at NCAAs
Our men's swimming and diving team returned from NCAAs with a 19th-place finish last week, thanks to a podium finish from Derek Maas, who placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and several season-best marks and All-America performances. Congratulations to all our student-athletes and coaches on a great season!
Derek Maas Earns Elite 90 Award
In addition to earning All-America honors at the national meet, Derek Maas captured NCAA Swimming and Diving's Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the final site for each championship. This is the first time for an Alabama swimmer or diver to win the award. Way to go, Derek!
Men's Golf Wins Linger Longer Invitational
For the second time this season, our men's golf team swept team and individual tournament titles, this time at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia. In addition to the team win, Nick Dunlap won individual medalist honors with a 10-under par 206. Some victory milkshakes for Coach Seawell and squad!
Rowing Takes Five of Six Races in Oak Ridge vs. No. 18 Tennessee, Oklahoma
It was a successful weekend for our rowing team, who is now receiving votes in the top 20, sweeping Oklahoma and winning five of six races against No. 18 Tennessee. The showing marked the second-straight regatta where the Tide finished as low as second in all its races. Next up for Coach Putyrae's team is the Big Ten Invitational, being held in Sarasota, Florida this weekend.
Track and Field Rolls on in Week Two of Outdoor Season
Our track and field team had representatives at four different meets across the country last weekend, including the Texas Relays, Florida Relays, Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Once again, Coach Waters' group continued to set both school and personal bests, including Victor Kiprop with a new school record in the 10,000-meter, the men's 4x4 relay contingent of Khaleb McRae, Tarsis Orogot, Leander Forbes and Chris Robinson breaking the school record in the 4x400, while Chris also set the new 400-meter hurdle record. In total, the Tide amassed 25 top-10 finishes, six UA all-time top-10 jumps, three school records and one event sweep across meets in Texas, Florida and California.
